This degraded photograph was taken off a German officer who had been killed on the Eastern Front, and is one of the photographs of the Babi Yar massacre. It shows a German firing squad shooting Soviet civilians in the back, as they sit before their own dug graves in the infamous ravine in teh Ukrainian capital of Kiev. Between 1941 and 1942, historians estimate that 100,000-150,000 Soviet POWs, communists, gypsies, Ukrainian nationalists, civilians and Jews were executed in the location.
